DESIGN BEYOND BOUNDARIES

LET ALEXANDER JAMES INTERIORS TRANSFORM YOUR HOUSE INTO A HOME YOU’RE PROUD OF

Approaching 30 years in the industry and ranking among the World’s Top 100 Interior Designers, Alexander James Interiors has had the privilege of transforming some of the country’s most extraordinary homes. Our portfolio is as diverse as it is impressive, ranging from penthouse apartments with views over London to seven-bedroom mansions located in the most prestigious private estates. With further projects spanning across Europe and our recent expansion into Dubai, our experience truly knows no bounds.

We are thrilled to introduce our latest turnkey masterpiece—a private residential dwelling in Kent.

THE CLIENT’S WISHES:

Director of Interior Design, Stephanie, explains ‘we were first introduced to the client two years before the project was complete, and therefore were able to see this beautiful home evolve through from start to finish.’ We initially began with a brief taking meeting with both the Director of Interior Architecture and Interior Design where our client explored their clear vision and hopes for their family home. However, as the relationship developed, they quickly felt trust in our expertise and thus we were able to guide and elevate his vision to help bring it to life.

Our client wanted to create a family home but with spaces primed for entertainment whether this was family film nights, formal dinners, or garden pool parties. They were drawn to using Alexander James Interiors through our wide scope of projects shown on our social media but were also impressed with the variety of in-house services, such as producing CGIs, personalised styling and a white glove installation, we were able to offer which facilitated all their requirements.

By using all our services, we were able to ensure a seamless transition throughout the build into the completion of the interiors. Our turnkey service allows us to take away some of the stresses that naturally occur when building a house, as we can engage with all parties to negotiate each stage to make sure it is executed to the highest of standards.

THE FUN PART:

An essential starting point was evaluating the architect’s plans to guarantee optimal space planning for each area’s particular use. Under the guidance of our Interior Architecture Director, Susan, we refined the property’s model with meticulous attention to lighting details, layouts, flooring options, and bathroom designs.

Once we started to layer the architectural details such as the internal doors, hardware, and bathroom finishes, the project underwent a huge transitional period which made it feel less like a shell for the client, and thus help them visualise the completed home.

The client wanted to ensure that comfort was a priority, but style remained at the forefront of the designs. They wished for the family rooms to be a welcoming space that all the family wanted to gather in. In the drawing room their main request was a large ‘U’ shaped sofa that all the family could enjoy, so naturally this is where we started the design and then built up all the other elements from there.

Lead designer Stephanie chose soft tones to maintain an airy ambience despite the substantial sofa’s presence. The sofa’s slightly increased depth ensured ample seating space, while its soft curved edges facilitated visual flow within the room. Each detail of this room was considered to add layers of luxury through the use of the lighting, wall panelling, or the trimming on the curtains.

The main family area was within the kitchen so this open plan space was essential, being the heart of the home. This is where everyone gathered in the morning to have breakfast, its where the children did their homework or watched TV after school and where the family gathered in the evening for their dinner. The main focus point was the stunning kitchen the client had commissioned, our designs needed to compliment the tones and add to the luxury style we created throughout the property.

The entertainment areas were a large part of this property, so it was important that they were each given an individual feel and purpose. In the formal dining room, we created a space with lots of architectural details such as the wall panelling, fireplace and metal fretwork panels that led into a reception bar which was perfect for a pre dinner drink. We used light colours but toned with dark rich woods that elevated this more formal space within the home.

The main entertaining area was the large games room bar off the pool area which encompassed many activities for all members of the family such a large screen for sports and movies, pool table and dart board as well as the large bespoke feature bar with the backlit amberlite. The rich tones still flow from the main house but we explored high wearing fabrics to ensure that all the family needs are catered for without worrying about drinks spillages.

The master suite is our client’s little capsule away from reality, their space to start the day and their haven to unwind at the end of a day. We wanted to create a boutique feel with lots of soft textures and rich tones. The master lobby was designed as a display room to showcase our client’s wonderful accessories with an array of handbags, watches, perfume and shoes.

Leading off the lobby separate dressing rooms catered to both partners. For her dressing room we kept the design light, with soft textures and a stunning feature droplet light over the centre island and, by contrast, his dressing room was dark and moody with glass wardrobe doors with lighting behind. For the main master headboard wall we wanted to take this to the next level with the layering of materials so within the design you will find an antique mirror, antique brass metal inlays, upholstered centre panel all housed within a painted framework detail. The details are mirrored around the room with the use of the metal detail in the ceiling light and use of different fabric textures of the bed and within the seating area. It is a perfect space for relaxing and unwinding!

When designing children’s bedrooms within the family home we like to include the children in the design of their bedrooms, so they feel valued and heard in the process. Their bedrooms are their little sanctuary and safe spaces so it’s a joy to hear their briefs and what they would like us to include.

We would be happy to help!
