The North Face x Gucci: Chapter 2
Gucci reveals the second Chapter of its partnership with The North Face. Picking up exactly where left off, this cutting-edge product selection stays true to its core celebrating the spirit of exploration in all its forms.
Whether literal discovery of places or cultures or the more metaphorical kind of adventures, this collection once again, addresses the curious drawing from values of self-discovery and self-expression that define both brands.
To narrate the second phase of this collaboration, Alessandro Michele has conceived a campaign shot by French twins Jalan and Jibril Durimel set in Iceland. In stills and video, we are introduced to this territory’s unique landscape and its otherworldly spirit. This, Europe’s most sparsely populated country, possesses a dream-like quality, with a variety of haunting landscapes, from volcanic black sand to rolling green hills and awe-inspiring glaciers. Into this environment come Gucci’s intrepid explorers, hiking across the Nordic island. They are pictured against its vast and breath-taking scenic backdrop – images that capture colourful candid moments, showcasing the distinctive products.
This special cross-category collection for men and women comprises ready-to-wear, soft accessories, luggage and shoes, including many pieces as hiking boots, multi-pocketed backpacks and warm, insulated jackets that powerfully reference the outdoor world of The North Face.
The ready-to-wear selection comprises different styles and designs, including a number of bombers and vests that feature the classic GG monogram all-over as well as reimagined styles from The North Face iconic ‘90s attire, decorated with colorful prints, some of which inspired by Gucci’s archive. Additionally, the collection presents an exclusively designed selection of outerwear applied to remastered iconic styles from the ‘70s that features the latest proprietary technologies from The North Face, the brand’s latest best in class construction and technology. Key elements of these styles focus on a minimalist approach to performance and function, including the use of an ultralight bonded baffle construction instead of stitching, unique yarn constructions to thermoregulate during wear, and transfer printing on a nylon base.
The second chapter of The North Face x Gucci collection embodies the commitment of both partner brands to support eco-sustainable activities with the use of ECONYL® – a nylon fabric created from regenerated materials (fishing nets, carpets and other scraps) that can be recycled and recreated, decreasing its environmental footprint. Additionally, 100% of the down insulation is certified to the Responsible Down Standard by Control Union.
Packaging for the pieces comes in vibrant pink, featuring The North Face x Gucci logo. The garment and carrier bags, boxes and pouches have been strategically designed to reduce environmental impact at every step of manufacture. All paper and cardboard come from sustainably managed forest sources, and an uncoated paper has been used to ensure it is fully recyclable. To reduce the amount of paper, boxes are equipped with handles to avoid the use of shopping bags. Larger items come in shopping bags and cotton covers without boxes.
The collection will be distributed through designated stores and ephemeral Gucci Pop-Ups, where the spaces will be imagined to suggest a clean icescape. A dedicated product selection will also be available from The North Face stores in New York, Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo. Furthermore, a limited selection of The North Face x Gucci pieces will also be on sale on gucci.com.
