The technology driving the advanced preventive diagnostic circuit

Made up of state-of-the-art devices, it provides all the relevant information on the real state of health of each guest in a very short time.

SHA Wellness Clinic guests can now enjoy the advanced preventive diagnostic circuit that performs, in approximately 30 minutes, a battery of non-invasive tests aimed at obtaining as much information as possible about their current state of health. Some of the different health programmes already include these tests that allow SHA’s multidisciplinary team of experts to adapt and orient their recommendations to the true needs of each guest at the beginning of their stay. This qualitative and quantitative leap in the diagnostic data collected is possible thanks to the integration of the most cutting-edge technologies and devices available.

Juan Antonio García, Clinic Director at SHA Wellness Clinic, explains how it works: “Once the guest is in the Health Screening Lab, a video explains the different stages they will go through starting by measuring the variability of their heart rate, pulse wave, the functioning of the autonomic nervous system, the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, the level of physical and mental stress, the ageing of the blood vessels and arterial elasticity; by means of digital infrared light photoplethysmography through a finger pulse oximeter. This is followed by the measure of glycated proteins in tissue: AGEs, which play a central role in the development of diabetes and its complications. Continuing with the vital signs unit, we collect the most common variables, such as blood pressure, respiratory rate, body temperature and blood oxygen saturation to know the guest’s all day nervous system behavior. We then carry out a complete body composition analysis. To do this, we use a device that emits a very low intensity electric current, which travels through the body and segments it into five different zones, measuring with maximum precision the bioimpedance of the core, arms, and legs separately. In addition, it provides information on intra- and extracellular water, visceral fat, and muscle mass distribution, nutritional evaluation, and ideal weight recommendation among other parameters, which other machines do not usually provide. Then, with the 3D body scanner, this 5th generation scanner obtains a 360º image from which generates an avatar of the guest in 35 seconds. This allows us to measure body perimeters and analyse the waist-to-hip ratio, one of the markers of cardiovascular risk, as it shows that a lot of visceral fat is being stored. This test also gives us relevant data on body position and the distribution of the weight load on the feet, which helps us to recommend postural re-education therapies, physiotherapy treatments or the most appropriate physical training. In this way, we can correct a flawed posture and avoid future pathologies because most musculoskeletal problems usually appear by compensation: if we sit in a bad posture, the muscles of the buttocks contract, which will cause lumbago. Finally, as a last step, a neurocognitive test allows us to evaluate higher mental functions, including training in key aspects such as relaxation, concentration and overcoming phobias.”

These tests provide a complete analysis of the internal and external health status of the guest to hyper-personalise their stay from the beginning of the health programme. For example, personal trainers and physiotherapists will be able to work together on a training programme adapted to the posture and the footprint, and the doctor will be able to indicate the training time according to the state of the arteries or the resistance to exercise according to the heart rate of the guest.

This is just the beginning of a hyper-personalisation that we have been working on for years at SHA and that will allow us to get to know our guests better and let them enjoy the healthy life their deserve.
