World Ocean Day 2022

Happy World Ocean Day! 

At SWM we share the belief that luxury and sustainability should be inextricably linked, which is why we’re proud to support the Soneva Foundation and play a part in the rehabilitation of coral reefs in the Maldives.

Coral reefs around the world are challenged on numerous levels these days. Different threats from climate change to plastic pollution make it difficult for them to grow and propagate. Direct action is needed so future generations will be able to enjoy all the beauty and security they provide for us humans.

A collective effort of the Soneva Foundation, Coralive.org and Ark2030 resulted in the establishment of one of the largest coral nurseries in the world, located in the Maldives at the Soneva Fushi resort.

Here, corals are grown and eventually out-planted to degraded areas. A total of 432 nursery tables, like the one shown in this image, are populated with over 50,000 rare species of resilient corals.
