The Summer season is in full swing – welcoming longer days and warmer nights, and plenty more time spent in the garden. The lighter evenings have led to a sharp increase in Octagon Bespoke clients looking to go above and beyond – and all out show-stopping – when it comes to the outdoor space of their spectacular homes.

As gardens continue to become extensions of living areas, an outdoor space offering impressive facilities is often at the very top of luxe property wish lists. Octagon Bespoke creates tailor-made properties designed to fit individual lifestyles, and outdoor space is always part of the design – from an impressive all-singing outdoor kitchen, ideal for hosting friends for an alfresco feast, an infinity pool for morning laps or an all-weather tennis court for couples’ doubles.

Laurence Holder, Bespoke Director at Octagon comments, “Demand for outdoor facilities is high, and we’re finding clients are increasingly seeking to emulate a Mediterranean lifestyle setting in their own back garden. Facilitating the use of outdoor space, as much as the British weather allows, clients regularly request plans for an ultimate alfresco setting for hosting. From fully kitted outdoor kitchens to luxe sunken seating complete with fire pit, clients are keen to create a seamless transition to the outdoors, resulting in the ultimate entertaining space all year round.

“Swimming pools remain our most popular request and are sure to be the focal point to a garden. Whether for relaxing, exercise, or a bit of both, nothing beats a garden with an outdoor pool on a warm day. We’ve of course been installing pools, rills, fountains, features and even lakes in everything from Bespoke builds to flagship developments since we were established over 40 years ago, and recently we’re experiencing more requests for the incorporation of unique water features. They’ve been a staple in the homes of the wealthy for centuries, telling the stories of those that commissioned them – whether a notable moment in history, or a passion of the financier behind it. This reigns true to the current today, in fact, recently we were asked by a client who has a real passion for the aviation industry to incorporate a huge airplane into a water feature, hopefully powered by solar energy, at the entrance to the property.”

Octagon Developments are renowned for their superb quality and attention to detail, both indoors and out. Recent projects with the outdoor wow factor include a timeless Octagon classic on the exclusive St. George’s Hill Estate in Weybridge, Surrey, with a spectacular infinity pool stealing the show at the rear of the five-bedroom super-home. Providing an idyllic swimming spot, the client’s infinity pool showcases a spectacular waterfall feature, with heating for peak comfort, and near- reaching views of the bordering estate’s championship golf course. Ensuring optimum vistas, a deep paved terrace was built, providing varying vantage points from all angles of the garden, with equally pleasing views.

An outstanding example of the potentials of a Bespoke outdoor setting, a past Octagon project in Oxshott, Surrey featured wide expanses of stone terrace, lavish planting and rolling lawns, offering a superb canvas for leisure opportunities. Creating the ultimate sports hub, the clients desired an all-weather sports pitch/ tennis court, and a charming timber roofed gazebo protecting the chicest of table tennis sets. For an impressive BBQ area, between the house and gazebo was a sheltered cook-out zone, with a wall of catering equipment, padded seating, and opposite a speciality plasma TV installed into the white stone wall, sun proofed for uninterrupted alfresco viewing.
